Nation,

The liberal media has finally caught wind of our engenius plan to immortalize a national hero within the halls or our alma mater. Last week I was approached by Mr. Donald Meyers of the Salt Lake Tribune. He spent some time interviewing me, asking questions about Stephen Colbert, why we have chosen him and the reaction we’ve received thus far. It was quite an experience, and I was excited to have the extra publicity for our campaing for truthiness.

Little did I know, this one little article would spawn a landslide of journalistic splendour.  Within two days, the Colbert Room had been mentioned in nearly every newspaper from Logan to St. George. There were radio briefs on KSL and other morning news stations as well as some TV coverage.

It’s apparent that the media obviously knows truthiness when they see it.

I’m hoping that this extra burst of media coverage can help push us that much closer to our goal. May we strive ever closer to creating change in our school and community with our change (coinage, that is).

Here’s some links to a bunch of the articles we’ve seen so far:

The last few weeks have been more frustrating than trying to find a point to the Charlie the Unicorn video (aside from the obvious point protruding from his face). I’ve been passed from administrator to administrator and department to department all over campus in an attempt to get the ball rolling with on campus advertising and donation gathering. Nobody has had answers. It was quite remarkable, actually. I find it hilarious that I am putting forth the effort and acquiring the man power to donate thousands of dollars to Utah Valley University, yet I have been treated like the ugly redheaded step-child that nobody really wants to associate with or take responsibility for… that is, until this week.

I finally had a breakthrough when I came in contact with Michael Shaw, a professor on campus and advisor to the UVU Honors Program. He got a hold of me through the writers/editors of the UVU Review. I don’t think I’d be lying if I said that Professor Shaw is as excited about this project as I am. We are now in cahoots with Student Government as well, and will likely begin advertising and accepting donations on campus the week after fall Break (next week).

If you would like to volunteer, just leave a comment on this (or any other) post, and I will get in contact with you.

In the mean time, I wish you peace, prosperity and enlightenment with this little gem that shows us how ridiculous our country can be…

Nation, this is the first of many articles to come. This idea is growing faster than Al Gore’s nose hairs (really fast).

Who knows, soon, Colbert himself might even hear about our attempts to honor a national hero, and public icon and decide to feature such a cause in his personal journal… or maybe even his show.

You can read the divinely inspired article written by the lovely Jennie Nicholls here.

In the mean time, continue to spread the word. Write your local Senators! Tell your cleaning lady or your roommate’s girlfriend. Or just click here to donate.

This idea came to fruition about a month ago as a group of friends and myself walked through the library for the first time. We saw signs posted throughout the library advertising the ability to name a room. After some investigation, we learned that the minimum donation for a room is $5,000. We started thinking how awesome it would be if we could rally the troops and name a room after something unique and hilarious. We concluded that since Stephen Colbert has had just about everything else in the world named after him (from bridges to hockey mascots) we might as well try to name part of the library after him.

I’ve had ‘crazy’ ideas like this in the past, but for some reason, this time it was different. I wanted to make it happen. So, I set up a fund raiser account, started telling my friends and suddenly the ball was rolling.

Before I knew it, I had set up an interview and photo opp with the UVU school paper, along with a meeting with the Alumni Board who made my fund raiser officially affiliated with the school. Now, donations can be considered a tax write off!

The next step is spreading the word on campus, making t-shirts, passing out flyers, trying to get some businesses on board and of course, Mr. Colbert himself.

Man this is exciting stuffs…
